If you’ve been assigned to tutor Grade 5 learners in math this school year, you probably have two questions. Where are the official materials? And how do I actually use them in a 45- to 60-minute session?

This guide answers both. You’ll find what the ARAL Math materials are, who can use them, a simple session routine, and ways to adapt the worksheets for learners at different levels.

What Are the ARAL Math Grade 5 Tutor’s Guide and Learner’s Worksheets?

DepEd released the Grade 5 materials as a pair:

  1. Tutor’s Guide: the teaching manual. It gives the tutor the session flow, guided instruction, examples, and practice activities.
  2. Learner’s Worksheets: the printable pages your pupils answer during and after each session.

On the official DepEd LR Portal, the Grade 5 files for SY 2026-2027 are labeled as final, ready-to-print versions (FINAL – RTP). That means they’re cleared for reproduction, so schools can print them without extra approval.

What’s in the ARAL Math Grade 5 Package?

DepEd’s Learning Resource Portal lists two files for Grade 5, both marked “FINAL – RTP”:

Structured lessons and suggested active-learning activities for planning and delivering tutorials

ARAL Math G5 Learner’s Worksheets

Practice tasks the learner works through during and after the session

DepEd’s own primer describes tutor guides as containing explicit, structured lessons, so you aren’t building each session from scratch. The worksheets are what your learners hold in their hands.

Quick note on grade bands: On the official portal, Grades 1 to 5 each have their own Tutor’s Guide and Learner’s Worksheets. Grades 7 and 8 share one set, and so do Grades 9 and 10. Make sure you download the Grade 5 files, not a neighboring grade.

Who Can Use These Materials?

Under RA 12028, ARAL tutors may be:

  • DepEd teachers and para-teachers
  • Pre-service teachers
  • Other qualified individuals engaged by DepEd (external tutors), who must meet the training and good-moral-character requirements

There is one firm rule: teachers cannot tutor their own learners. If you teach a Grade 5 section, you tutor a different section’s learners in the ARAL program.

Many divisions began deploying ARAL tutors in June 2026 for SY 2026-2027. Your school head and ARAL focal person have the final say on schedules, assignments, and reporting. Follow their instructions where they differ from anything on this page.

How to Use the Tutor’s Guide: A Simple Session Routine

DepEd’s materials give you the lesson content. Here is a pacing routine that works well for a Grade 5 math tutorial. Adjust the minutes to fit your actual session length. ARAL sessions are capped at one hour per subject.

  1. Warm-up (5 minutes). Do a quick oral drill. Ask “What is 7 × 8?” or “Which is bigger, 0.5 or 0.45?” Keep it fast and low-pressure.
  2. Teach one idea (10 minutes). Follow the Tutor’s Guide for the day’s lesson. Use drawings, fraction strips, or coins to show the idea before using symbols.
  3. Guided practice (15 minutes). Work the first few worksheet items with the learners. Let them explain their thinking out loud.
  4. Independent practice (15 minutes). Learners finish the remaining items on their own while you walk around and check.
  5. Wrap-up (5 minutes). Ask each learner to share one thing they learned or one thing still confusing.

Tip: Match the tools to the concept. When learners struggle with an abstract idea, move back to something they can touch or draw first. This concrete-to-abstract approach is standard in math intervention.

5 Tips to Get More Out of the Learner’s Worksheets

  1. Don’t hand out the whole packet at once. Give one worksheet per session. A thick stack can discourage a learner who already feels behind.
  2. Use Filipino contexts. Convert word problems to pesos, jeepney fares, sari-sari store purchases, or palengke prices. Learners connect faster to money they’ve actually handled.
  3. Ask “How did you get that?” for every answer, right or wrong. Explaining reasoning catches misconceptions that a correct answer can hide.
  4. Keep a simple progress tracker. Record the date, the skill, and a quick check mark (got it, almost, needs more time). Your school may require formal reports, and this makes them easy to fill out.
  5. Praise effort, not speed. Many ARAL learners already believe they are “bad at math.” Your tone matters as much as the material.
