What Is the ILAW Lesson Plan Format?
If you’ve been hearing a lot about ILAW lately, here’s everything you need to know — fast.
ILAW is the new national lesson planning framework introduced by DepEd through DepEd Order No. 016, s. 2026, signed by Secretary Sonny Angara on June 4, 2026. The order replaces the traditional Daily Lesson Log (DLL) and Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) formats under the old DO No. 42, s. 2016.
The word ILAW is Filipino for “light” — a fitting name for a framework designed to illuminate the path of every lesson for both teacher and learner.
The Four Components of the ILAW Framework
Component | What It Covers |
I — Intentions | Learning competencies, specific objectives, and learner context |
L — Learning Experience | Pre-lesson activities, lesson flow, resources, and integration opportunities |
A — Assessing Learning | Formative and summative assessment strategies |
W — Ways Forward | Remediation, enrichment, and connections to the next lesson |
As DepEd Secretary Angara explained, the ILAW framework “shifts teachers’ focus to high-quality teaching rather than compliance-heavy paperwork.” The goal is simple: clear intentions, prepared teachers, and children who actually learn inside the classroom.
Important: Per the transitory provision of DO No. 016, s. 2026, teachers may still use the old DLL or DLP format until the end of Term 1 of SY 2026–2027. Full ILAW implementation is required starting Term 2 onward. The good news? The DLL files on this page are already in ILAW format — so you’re getting a head start.
Why Term 1 Week 9 Is a Critical Week for Grade 5 Teachers
Week 9 of Term 1 is a significant checkpoint in the school year. At this point, you and your learners have been in school for over two months — enough time to establish routines, build rapport, and cover the early competencies in your Budget of Work (BOW).
Here’s why Week 9 deserves special attention:
- Pre-assessment of mastery — Learners who struggled in Weeks 1–8 need to be identified before Term 1 closes.
- Reinforcement and consolidation — Key concepts introduced earlier in the term should now be revisited with greater depth.
- Transition preparation — Depending on your school calendar, Term 1 may end soon. Week 9 is the time to ensure no learner is left behind before the term wraps up.
- Differentiated instruction — Your Ways Forward section this week should include concrete remediation tasks for struggling learners and enrichment activities for those who have already mastered the competencies.
A well-prepared ILAW Lesson Plan Grade 5 Term 1 Week 9 helps you turn this critical week into a meaningful one — not just a box to tick.

How to Use These ILAW DLL Files Effectively
Downloading the file is just the first step. Here’s how to make the most of your ILAW Lesson Plan Grade 5 Term 1 Week 9 materials:
- Review the Intentions section first. Check that the learning competency matches your current Budget of Work (BOW). If there’s a mismatch, adjust the competency code before anything else.
- Contextualize the Learning Experience. The downloaded DLL is a template, not a finished product. Adapt the activities to match your learners’ real situation — their learning pace, available materials, and classroom setup.
- Add your Learner Context. Under DepEd Order No. 016, s. 2026, every ILAW lesson plan must include a Learner Context field that describes your actual class — their readiness level, any learners with special needs, and relevant background knowledge.
- Don’t skip the Ways Forward. This is the section that separates a good lesson plan from a great one. Specify who needs remediation, what enrichment activity you’ll give to advanced learners, and how this lesson connects to Week 10.
- Include your AI Declaration. Per DepEd Order No. 003, s. 2026, if you used any AI tool in preparing or modifying this lesson plan, you are required to declare it. A simple statement at the end of your DLL — noting that AI was used as an auxiliary tool and that you reviewed and contextualized all content — is sufficient.
Sample AI Declaration: “This lesson plan was prepared with the assistance of an AI tool for initial drafting. All learning competencies, objectives, activities, and assessment strategies were reviewed, contextualized, and finalized by the teacher based on actual classroom conditions and learner needs.”

Frequently Asked Questions About ILAW Lesson Plans for Grade 5
Is the ILAW format required for Grade 5 teachers in SY 2026–2027?
Yes and no — but lean toward yes. While the transitory provision of DO No. 016, s. 2026 allows teachers to still use the old DLL format until the end of Term 1, the ILAW format is already the prescribed standard. Schools are encouraged to transition now so teachers are fully ready for Term 2, when ILAW becomes fully mandatory.
Can I still use the old DLL format for Week 9?
Technically, yes — you can use the old format through the end of Term 1. However, the files on this page are already in ILAW format, which means you’re already one step ahead. Starting ILAW now also makes you more comfortable with the format before the mandatory rollout.
Do these files cover all Grade 5 subjects?
Yes. The ILAW DLL files available here cover all core Grade 5 learning areas: English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Araling Panlipunan, ESP, and MAPEH — all aligned with the MATATAG curriculum and the three-term BOW.
Are these files really free to download?
Absolutely. All ILAW Lesson Plan files on this site are 100% free. We believe every Filipino teacher deserves access to quality instructional materials without having to pay for them. No account, no subscription, no hidden fees.
What if Week 9 falls on a holiday or shortened week?
The ILAW framework is flexible by design. If your Week 9 is shortened due to a holiday or school activity, simply redistribute the competencies across the available days. The Ways Forward section of Week 8 should also note any carryover competencies for Week 9.
