If you teach Grade 5 and you’re building your second summative test of the term, you’ve probably noticed that last year’s “Quarter 2, Week 5” tests don’t fit anymore. We’re now on the three-term calendar, and the assessment rules changed with it.

What Is Summative Test 2 (ST2) in Term 2?
The old quarterly periodical test is gone. Under the revised classroom assessment guidelines, DepEd Order No. 015, s. 2026, summative assessment evaluates learner achievement at defined points in the curriculum, such as the end of a lesson sequence or term.
For examinations, each learning area now has two Summative Tests and one Term Examination per term. ST1 is generally given around the 16th instructional day and covers the first fifteen days of lessons. ST2 may be given around the 32nd instructional day and covers the next fifteen days. The Term Examination comes at the end and focuses mostly on competencies taught after ST2, plus a few critical or least-mastered competencies from earlier.
So Summative Test 2 only covers lessons from roughly instructional days 16 to 30 of Term 2. It is not cumulative, and it is not a quarterly exam.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Summative Test 2 the same as the periodical test?
No. The Term Examination, given at the end of the term, is the closest thing to the old periodical test. ST1 and ST2 are shorter, in-term tests.
Can I use my SY 2025-2026 Quarter 2 test?
Only if you check it against what you taught this term. The structure, item count and grading weights are different now, so rebuild your TOS first.
How many items should ST2 have?
Not more than 20 for Grade 5.
Do I need a TOS for a Summative Test?
DO 015 doesn’t require one fixed template. It does tie item counts to your TOS. Having one is the easiest way to show alignment to competencies and lessons actually covered.
Can I edit the downloadable file?
