What Is the ARAL Program?
ARAL stands for Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning. It is DepEd’s national tutoring program created under the ARAL Program Act (Republic Act No. 12028). It helps learners who haven’t yet reached grade-level competencies catch up in core subjects.
DepEd launched the program to give Kindergarten to Grade 10 learners tutorial support in reading, mathematics, and science. The first phase focused on ARAL-Reading, with later phases expanding to ARAL-Mathematics for Grades 1 to 10, then ARAL-Science and summer programs. That expansion is why Grade 1 Math materials matter for SY 2026-2027. gmanetwork

What’s Inside the ARAL Math Grade 1 Tutor’s Guide and Learner’s Worksheets?
DepEd’s orientation materials describe the ARAL-Mathematics learning resources for Grades 1 to 10 as activity plans or worksheets with answer keys. For Grade 1, that translates into two pieces:
Resource | Who uses it | What it’s for |
Tutor’s Guide | Tutors and teachers | Step-by-step session plans, teaching tips, and answer keys |
Learner’s Worksheets | Grade 1 learners | Printable practice activities for each lesson |
In this download: [Number] session plans · [Number] worksheets · answer keys included · print-ready PDF [adjust to match your files]
Math skills Grade 1 ARAL sessions commonly cover
Check these against your actual files, but Grade 1 remediation typically focuses on:
- Counting, reading, and writing numbers
- Comparing and ordering numbers
- Place value (ones and tens)
- Addition and subtraction with small numbers
- Number patterns and simple word problems
- Shapes, measurement, and time basics
Who Can Use the ARAL Math Grade 1 Tutor’s Guide and Learner’s Worksheets?
The guide is built for anyone delivering ARAL Math sessions. DepEd has deployed various tutors for the program. For example, one division deployed LSB-funded teachers and DOLE-GIP tutors as ARAL tutors starting June 2026. You may be:
- A classroom teacher with ARAL tutoring duties
- An LSB-funded or DOLE-GIP tutor newly assigned to a school
- A pre-service teacher or volunteer supporting a school
- A parent or guardian reinforcing lessons at home
You don’t need to be a math expert. A good tutor’s guide tells you what to say, what to show, and what to do when a child gets stuck.

How to Use the ARAL Math Grade 1 Materials (Step by Step)
- Identify your learners. Use your school’s assessment results and teacher recommendations to decide who needs support.
- Print the worksheets. Use short bond paper and print one copy per learner. Black and white works fine.
- Read the session plan first. Spend five minutes before each session reviewing the objective and the sample questions.
- Start concrete, then go abstract. Use bottle caps, sticks, or counters before moving to pencil-and-paper.
- Do the worksheet together. Model the first item, do the second together, then let the learner try the rest.
- Check with the answer key. Review mistakes right away. Praise effort, then re-teach what was missed.
- Record progress. Keep simple notes on attendance and skills mastered, since DepEd expects tutors to keep accurate records of learner participation, activities, and progress.
A Simple 30-Minute Session Flow
Time | Activity | Tip |
0–5 min | Warm-up (counting chant, quick number game) | Keep it playful |
5–12 min | Teach the concept with real objects | Use items from the classroom or home |
12–22 min | Guided worksheet practice | Sit beside the learner |
22–27 min | Independent practice | Let them try on their own |
27–30 min | Review and praise | End with one thing they did well |
