A note on the dates. DepEd’s calendar opens Term 2 instruction on September 16, 2026 and runs it through December 4. Counting that first partial week as Week 1 puts Week 6 on October 19–23. Term 1 followed the same pattern, with Week 6 landing on July 20–24. Some schools shift their pacing by a few days because of local events, so follow your school head’s schedule if it differs.

What Is the ILAW Lesson Plan Format?

ILAW is DepEd’s lesson planning framework under DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026 (Guidelines on Lesson Planning and Learning Design). It has four parts:

  • I – Intentions: what learners should know and be able to do
  • L – Learning Experience: the activities that get them there
  • A – Assessing Learning: how you check that it worked
  • W – Ways Forward: remediation, enrichment, and your own reflection

During the transition period, teachers could still use the older DLL or DLP formats. Full implementation of the revised lesson planning guidelines begins in the second term of SY 2026–2027. That makes Term 2 the term when ILAW stops being optional for most teachers.

One change to watch. Instead of five identical daily boxes, ILAW lets you plan by sessions. A typical week might be Session 1 for vocabulary, Session 2 for comprehension, and Session 3 for writing. Plan around what learners need to do next, not just around the day of the week.

Grade 3 Term 2 Week 6: What Each Subject Covers

Grade 3 under MATATAG has six learning areas: English, Filipino, GMRC, Makabansa, Mathematics, and Science. If an older template shows separate Araling Panlipunan or MAPEH lessons for Grade 3, it is out of date. Here is the Week 6 focus for each subject.

Subject

Week 6 Focus

Key Skill

English

Informational texts: significant details, problem and solution, time-order procedures

Locating facts and sequencing steps with signal words

Filipino

Pag-unawa sa tekstong impormatibo: ulat-panahon, mapa, mahahalagang detalye, suliranin at solusyon

Reading weather reports and maps, then writing a short problem-solution paragraph

GMRC

Pakikiisa sa gawaing panrelihiyon o paniniwala ng pamilya

Voluntary helping, giving time, and respecting different beliefs

Makabansa

Sining at kultura ng mas malawak na komunidad

Family traditions, local words, heroes, and crafts as identity

Mathematics

Subtraction of numbers less than 10,000, with and without regrouping

Place value, regrouping, and checking answers

Science

Basic needs of living things: how organisms depend on each other and their environment

Explaining relationships in a garden or pond

These topics follow the Grade 3 Three-Term Budget of Work. Always cross-check with your official copy before you submit your plan.

ILAW Snapshot for Each Subject (Sample Ideas)

The downloadable files give you a full structure. These snapshots show how the four ILAW parts can look for each subject. Treat them as starting points and swap in your own learners’ context.

English 3: Informational Texts and Procedures

  • Intentions: Learners identify significant details in an informational text, match a problem to its solution, and arrange familiar steps (like proper garbage disposal) using first, next, then, finally.
  • Learning Experience: Do a short read-aloud with a detail chart on the board. Hand out sentence strips of a waste-disposal procedure and have pairs reorder them.
  • Assessing Learning: Use an exit ticket with three details from the text and one problem-solution pair.
  • Ways Forward: Pull a small group that mixed up the sequence. As an extension, learners list the steps for sorting waste at home.

Filipino 3: Ulat-Panahon at Mapa

  • Intentions: Kukuha ang mga mag-aaral ng mahahalagang detalye mula sa isang halimbawang ulat-panahon, magbabasa ng simbolo sa mapa ng komunidad, at susulat ng maikling talata tungkol sa suliranin at solusyon.
  • Learning Experience: Use guiding questions: Saan? Anong panahon? Ano ang payo? Then move to a community map activity and a short writing task.
  • Assessing Learning: Give a short oral Q&A and a three-sentence paragraph checked with a simple rubric.
  • Ways Forward: Reteach map symbols to learners who need it. For home, invite learners to listen to a real forecast with an adult and report two details.

Teaching tip: Weather reports in a textbook or DLL are classroom models, not live forecasts. For real conditions, point learners and families to official advisories from DOST-PAGASA.

GMRC 3: Pakikiisa sa Gawain ng Pamilya

  • Intentions: Learners show willingness to help with family activities connected to their beliefs, and respect other families’ practices.
  • Learning Experience: Use short stories and role-play showing voluntary help, giving time, and respectful participation.
  • Assessing Learning: Use an observation checklist and a one-sentence reflection.
  • Ways Forward: Learners ask a family member what one family activity means to them.

Teaching tip: Keep the focus on respect and cooperation. Don’t ask learners to disclose their personal faith in front of the class.

Makabansa 3: Sining at Kultura ng Komunidad

  • Intentions: Learners connect family traditions, local words, heroes, and crafts to cultural identity.
  • Learning Experience: Use word cards of local terms, a short discussion on family traditions, and a simple design task inspired by local crafts.
  • Assessing Learning: Use a rubric for the craft or design output and a short oral explanation.
  • Ways Forward: Learners bring a family tradition or local word to share next session.

October is also National Indigenous Peoples Month, so this week is a natural place to connect the lesson with local heritage.

Mathematics 3: Subtraction Up to 10,000

  • Intentions: Learners subtract numbers less than 10,000 with and without regrouping, and verify their answers by addition.
  • Learning Experience: Model with a place-value chart and base-ten blocks. Work an example together, such as 5,306 − 2,148 = 3,158, then check it: 2,148 + 3,158 = 5,306. Move to partner checking and error analysis.
  • Assessing Learning: Give a five-item quiz that mixes regrouping and non-regrouping problems.
  • Ways Forward: Plan a small-group session for regrouping across zeros, like 4,000 − 1,267 = 2,733. Offer extra problems for fast finishers.

Science 3: How Living Things Depend on Each Other

  • Intentions: Learners explain how plants, animals, and their surroundings depend on one another for basic needs.
  • Learning Experience: Observe a school garden, a pond picture, or photos if going outside isn’t possible. Learners sketch organisms and draw arrows showing what each one needs.
  • Assessing Learning: Check sketches and oral explanations using the sentence frame “The ___ may depend on the ___ for ___ because ___.”
  • Ways Forward: Revisit examples where the relationship isn’t obvious, like a bird resting on a tree. Not every connection benefits both sides.
