Why Week 8 Matters for Grade 3 Teachers

Week 8 of Term 1 falls on August 3–7, 2026 — and it is one of the most instructionally significant weeks of the first term. Here is why:

Summative assessment season is approaching. Week 8 is the final stretch before the end-of-Term 1 period block. Your Week 8 lesson plans should already be weaving in consolidation activities, review tasks, and competency checks to ensure learners are ready.
MATATAG content has ramped up. Grade 3 is in its second year under the MATATAG Curriculum (Grades 2, 3, 5, and 8 began the shift in SY 2025–2026), meaning learners now have a full year of MATATAG content under their belts. Week 8 competencies build directly on everything covered in Weeks 1 through 7 — gaps in earlier weeks will surface here.

By Week 8, Grade 3 English learners are deepening their work in:

Reading fluency — reading grade-level texts with appropriate speed, accuracy, and expression
Vocabulary development — applying context clues to determine word meaning; recognizing synonyms and antonyms
Grammar — identifying and using different types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, exclamatory)
Writing — composing short informational paragraphs using topic sentences and supporting details

ILAW tip for English: The Learning Experience section works well here with a three-session structure — Session 1 on vocabulary pre-teaching, Session 2 on guided reading with comprehension tasks, and Session 3 on written output. Avoid cramming all five days into a single lesson block.

Filipino 3

Week 8 Filipino competencies center on:

Talasalitaan — pagpapalawak ng bokabularyo sa pamamagitan ng konteksto at mga gawain
Pagsusuri ng teksto — pag-unawa sa mga detalye ng naratibo at impormasyon mula sa tekstong binasa
Gramatika — wastong paggamit ng pangngalan, panghalip, at pandiwa sa pangungusap
