What Are the ARAL Math Grade 3 Tutor’s Guide and Learner’s Worksheets?

DepEd released the Grade 3 materials as a pair:

  1. Tutor’s Guide: the teaching manual. It gives the tutor the session flow, guided instruction, examples, and practice activities.
  2. Learner’s Worksheets: the printable pages your pupils answer during and after each session.

On the official DepEd LR Portal, the Grade 3 files for SY 2026-2027 are labeled as final, ready-to-print versions (FINAL – RTP). That means they’re cleared for reproduction, so schools can print them without extra approval.

Inside the ARAL Math Grade 3 Tutor’s Guide

The Tutor’s Guide is organized session by session, so you can take one skill at a time. According to published descriptions of the guide, it starts with number patterns and then works up through the four operations. Each session has a clear focus, examples, and guided practice.

Here are the skills covered, as described in published summaries of the Grade 3 guide:

Skill Area

What Learners Practice

Patterns

Finding missing terms in continuous and repeating patterns

Addition

Adding 3- to 4-digit numbers, up to three addends

Subtraction

Subtracting 3- to 4-digit numbers, with and without regrouping

Word Problems

Routine and non-routine problems, including subtraction and money

Multiplication

Multiplying 2- to 3-digit numbers by 1- to 2-digit numbers; multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100

Division Facts

Visualizing and stating basic division facts

Division

Dividing 2- to 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, with and without remainders; dividing by 10 and 100

Always check the downloaded file for the exact session order and number of sessions, because DepEd may update the final version.

What’s in the Learner’s Worksheets?

The Learner’s Worksheets match the Tutor’s Guide. After the tutor models a skill, the learner practices it on the worksheet. This follows a simple and proven routine: I do, we do, you do.

Practical benefits:

  • Printable and low-cost. You only need paper, pencils, and a few everyday objects.
  • Aligned to the guide. No hunting for matching practice.
  • Good for home use. Parents can use them as extra practice, too.

How to Use the ARAL Math Grade 3 Materials: A Step-by-Step Plan

Having the files is the easy part. Here is a practical way to run a session. This is a suggested flow you can adapt, not an official DepEd script.

Step 1: Start with a quick warm-up (5 minutes)

Review a skill from the previous session with two or three quick questions. Ask “What is 8 × 6?” or “What comes next: 5, 10, 15, ___?” This tells you right away what stuck and what didn’t.

Step 2: Teach with objects first (10 minutes)

Grade 3 learners understand math better when they can touch it first, then draw it, then write it. This is called the concrete-pictorial-abstract approach.

  • Concrete: bottle caps, sticks, or play money
  • Pictorial: drawings, number lines, arrays
  • Abstract: the written equation

Step 3: Do one example together (5 minutes)

Work one problem from the Tutor’s Guide with the learner, and say your thinking out loud. Then do a second one where the learner leads and you only prompt.

Step 4: Independent practice on the worksheet (10-15 minutes)

Let the learner work alone. Walk around or watch quietly. Don’t rescue too fast, because productive struggle is how learning sticks.

Step 5: Check and close (5 minutes)

Review answers together. Ask the learner to explain one problem in their own words. If they can explain it, they know it.
