When Is Summative Test 2 in Term 2?
Under the new calendar, Term 2 instructional days run from September 16 to December 4, 2026. The summative tests are spread across the term instead of crowded at the end. journalnews
In Term 1, the pattern was clear. Summative Test 1 covered the early weeks (Weeks 1 to 3), and the Term Examination covered lessons taught after Summative Test 2, which was administered on July 28, 2026. Exact dates vary by division. Always check your Schools Division memorandum for your official schedule.

How Summative Test 2 Fits in the Grade 3 Grading System
Here’s the part many teachers ask about. Under DepEd Order No. 015, s. 2026 (Revised Guidelines on Classroom Assessment, Grading System, and Awards and Recognition), summative assessment includes Written or Oral Works, Product/Performance Tasks, and Examinations.
Within the Examinations component, the weights are:
Assessment | Weight within Examinations |
Summative Test 1 | 30% |
Summative Test 2 | 30% |
Term Examination | 40% |
Summative Test 2 is worth just as much as Summative Test 1, so it deserves a well-built, well-aligned test.
For SY 2026–2027, Grades 2 and 3 continue to use the numerical grading system and the adjusted transmutation table. Grade 3 teachers should keep using numerical grades this year. Grade 1 and Kindergarten use descriptive grading.

Is this aligned with the MATATAG curriculum?
Grade 3 is part of the MATATAG rollout this school year, and the tests are written around the Term 2 competencies. Still, always check them against your own DLL and budget of work before using them.
Can I edit the test?
You’re encouraged to. Adjust items, names and contexts to match what you actually taught.
Is Summative Test 2 the same as the Term Examination?
No. The Term Examination is a separate, end-of-term assessment. Summative Test 2 covers the middle portion of the term, and each carries its own weight in the Examinations component.
How many items should a Grade 3 summative test have?
DepEd doesn’t prescribe a fixed number for Key Stage 1 term examinations. Many teachers use 15 items for summative tests, guided by the TOS.
