Why EPP and TLE Teachers Need a New E-Class Record

The Department of Education officially shifted to a Three-Term (Trimester) School Calendar beginning SY 2026–2027 through DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2026 (Guidelines on the Implementation of the Three-Term School Calendar in Basic Education). This means the traditional four-quarter system that most of us have used for years is now gone.

For EPP and TLE teachers, this shift is significant for one key reason: EPP and TLE follow a different assessment weight compared to core subjects. Your old ECR templates — even last year’s automated ones — are no longer valid for this school year.

Using an outdated or wrong template could lead to incorrect grade transmutations, mismatched assessment component weights, and a whole lot of headaches come grading time. This guide will help you avoid all of that.

What Changed: Four Quarters vs. Three Terms

Here’s a quick comparison so you can see exactly what’s different:

Important note: The adjusted transmutation table (where an Initial Grade of 70.00 corresponds to a passing Term Grade of 75) is a transitional mechanism for SY 2026–2027 only. A zero-based grading system takes effect beginning SY 2027–2028. Do not reuse this year’s ECR file next school year without updating the formulas first

Understanding EPP-TLE Assessment Component Weights

This is where EPP and TLE teachers need to pay close attention. Unlike core subjects (Filipino, Math, Science, English) which follow a 20-50-30 weighting for Written Work, Performance Tasks, and Quarterly/Term Assessment respectively, EPP and TLE follow a different distribution:

Notice that Performance Tasks carry the heaviest weight — 60% — which makes perfect sense for practical, skills-based subjects like EPP and TLE. How Term Grades Are Computed in EPP-TLE

Here’s the step-by-step process the automated ECR follows:

Step 1: Compute the Percentage Score (PS) per Component

For each of the three components (WW, PT, TA), the learner’s raw scores are totaled and divided by the Highest Possible Score (HPS), then multiplied by 100.

PS = (Total Raw Score ÷ Highest Possible Score) × 100

Step 2: Apply the Weight

Each percentage score is multiplied by its corresponding weight:

Written Work: PS × 20%
Performance Tasks: PS × 60%
Term Assessment: PS × 20%

Step 3: Get the Initial Grade (IG)

Add the three weighted scores together to get the Initial Grade.

Step 4: Transmute to Term Grade

Use the adjusted transmutation table prescribed in DO 015, s. 2026 to convert the Initial Grade to a whole-number Term Grade.

Step 5: Compute the Final Grade

After all three terms are completed:

Final Grade = (Term 1 Grade + Term 2 Grade + Term 3 Grade) ÷ 3

The Final Grade is automatically computed in the ECR once all three term grades are entered.

Common Questions from EPP-TLE Teachers

Can I use my old ECR from last year?

No. Last year’s ECR was built for a four-quarter system with a different transmutation table. Using it this year will produce incorrect grades. You need the new Three-Term ECR.

What if I have multiple EPP specializations (e.g., Home Economics and Agriculture)?

Each specialization may need a separate worksheet or file, depending on how your school assigning subjects. The downloadable ECR typically includes separate tabs per specialization. If not, you can duplicate the worksheet and rename it accordingly.

What if my school is still using paper-based class records?

DepEd Memorandum No. 60, s. 2015 encourages the use of Electronic Class Records, and many schools have transitioned fully. However, the ECR data (especially the grade computations) must still match official grading provisions. Whether you print it or submit it digitally, the formulas must be correct.

Is the ECR the same for all TLE specializations?

The grade computation and weights are the same across all TLE specializations, but the assessment tasks and competencies you’re evaluating will differ by track (e.g., SMAW vs. Bread and Pastry Production vs. Computer Systems Servicing). The ECR layout, however, remains consistent.

What happens if a learner’s Final Grade is below 75?

A learner who fails EPP or TLE with a grade below 75 at the end of the school year may be required to undergo remediation. Retention policies follow the existing DepEd guidelines for promotion and retention, which haven’t changed under the three-term system.
