What Is the ILAW Lesson Plan Template?
If you’re still getting familiar with the shift, here’s a quick refresher. The ILAW Framework is the official replacement for the old Daily Lesson Log (DLL) and Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP). It was introduced to reduce the clerical burden on teachers and shift the focus back to what truly matters — actual learning.
“Ang mahalaga ay malinaw ang layunin ng aralin, handa ang guro, at natututo ang bata sa loob ng classroom.” — Secretary Sonny Angara
The acronym ILAW stands for:
Letter | Component | What It Covers |
I | Intentions | Learning competencies, objectives, and the “Big Ideas” of the lesson |
L | Learning Experiences | Priming activities, main teaching-learning activities, learner engagement |
A | Assessment | Formative and summative tools to check for understanding |
W | Ways Forward | Teacher reflection, remediation, reteaching, or enrichment plans |
Under DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026:
- Teachers shall not be required to add components beyond the four ILAW parts.
- Regional, division, and school offices cannot require extra templates or supplementary documentation.
- Full implementation is required beginning Term 2 of SY 2026–2027 — which means the lesson plans below are exactly what you need right now.
Why Grade 6 Teachers Are Searching for This Right Now
The transition to ILAW is happening during the school year, not before it. Most teachers are teaching six or more subjects daily, juggling homeroom duties, school activities, and the MATATAG Curriculum’s updated competencies — all while learning a brand-new lesson plan format.
Here’s what makes Grade 6 particularly demanding in Term 2:
- Filipino lessons in Term 2 deal with more complex reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Mathematics picks up pace with topics like algebraic thinking and data interpretation.
- Science enters more abstract concepts in force and motion or ecosystems.
- AP, ESP, MAPEH, and EPP/TLE all have their own set of week-by-week competencies.
Week 3 of Term 2 tends to fall in a busy stretch — right after the adjustment weeks of the new term, where assessments and portfolio requirements are also ramping up. Having your lesson plans done early gives you breathing room to focus on actual teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Is the ILAW template now required for all Grade 6 teachers? Yes. Per DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026, full implementation of the ILAW Framework for lesson planning is required starting Term 2 of SY 2026–2027.
Q: Can I still use the old DLL format? No — the transition period allowed teachers to continue using their old formats only through the end of Term 1. From Term 2 onwards, the ILAW format is mandatory.
Q: Do I need to submit the ILAW plan to my school head every week? Submission requirements may vary per school or division, but the plan itself must be completed. Check with your school head or EPS for specific submission schedules in your area.
Q: Can I edit the downloaded files? Absolutely. All files are in editable Word format. Just fill in your school name, grade and section, date, and any adjustments specific to your class context.
Q: What if my school has a modified or division-specific template? Your Division Office may have issued a locally adapted version of the ILAW template. Always check with your school head. However, the content and competencies in our files follow the national MATATAG curriculum, which should still align.
