ILAW Lesson Plan Grade 1 Term 1 Week 3 — Free Download (SY 2026–2027)

If you searched for “ILAW lesson plan Grade 1 Quarter 1 Week 3 free download,” you’re in exactly the right place — but before you scroll straight to the download button, let’s clear up one important thing first: DepEd no longer uses the term “Quarter 1.”

Starting School Year 2026–2027, the old four-quarter calendar was officially replaced by a three-term school calendar. What you used to call Quarter 1 Week 3 is now officially called Term 1, Week 3 — covering June 29 to July 3, 2026. It’s a small naming shift, but it trips up a lot of teachers — and a lot of outdated blog posts are still floating around online using the old terminology.

More importantly, the lesson plan format itself has completely changed. If you’re still using your old DLL or DLP templates, read on — because the files you need this week look very different from what you’ve been used to.

What Is the ILAW Lesson Plan? (And Why It Replaced the DLL)

The ILAW lesson plan is the new official lesson planning format prescribed by DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026, signed on June 4, 2026. It effectively replaces both the Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) and the Daily Lesson Log (DLL) with a single, simplified template for all grade levels and all subject areas.

ILAW is an acronym that stands for:

Letter

Component

What It Means

I

Intentions

The learning goals, competencies, and objectives for the session

L

Learning Experiences

The heart of the lesson — activities, discussions, tasks, and differentiated instruction

A

Assessment

How you check if learners understood the lesson (formative checks, oral Q&A, exit tickets)

W

Ways Forward

Your reflection and action plan — remediation, enrichment, or next steps

“The ILAW template is designed to make lesson planning a genuine instructional tool rather than a paperwork exercise.” — DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026

Unlike the old DLL which treated each day as a separate standalone log, the ILAW format encourages session-based planning — meaning you map out Session 1, Session 2, Session 3, and Session 4 in one continuous flow. For example: Session 1 on vocabulary building, Session 2 on reading comprehension, Session 3 on writing practice, and Session 4 on output or performance task.

One more thing: Under DepEd Order No. 3, s. 2026, teachers are now required to include an AI Use Declaration in their lesson plan if they used any artificial intelligence tool in preparing it. This is a new mandatory section you won’t find in old DLL templates.

What's New in Grade 1 Under MATATAG?

Grade 1 teachers especially need to pay attention here, because the subject structure for Grade 1 has significantly changed under the MATATAG Curriculum.

Here’s what’s different this school year:

  • Mother Tongue has been removed from Grade 1 entirely
  • English and Filipino are now taught as a combined subject called Language
  • A separate subject called Reading and Literacy has been introduced
  • Mathematics, GMRC, Araling Panlipunan, and MAPEH continue, with updated competencies

This means your Grade 1 ILAW lesson plan for Term 1 Week 3 will cover subjects under the MATATAG framework — not the old K–12 subject lineup. If you haven’t updated your planning templates yet, the files below are already aligned with these changes.

Why Week 3 Is a Critical Point in Term 1

Week 3 of Term 1 (June 29–July 3, 2026) isn’t just another week on the calendar. Instructionally, it’s the week where your early formative data should start informing your teaching decisions.

By now, you should have enough classroom observation from Weeks 1 and 2 to answer these questions:

  • Who among your Grade 1 learners is catching up quickly?
  • Who needs more time, more scaffolding, or a different approach?
  • Which learning competencies from Week 1 and 2 need to be revisited?

Your ILAW lesson plan for Week 3 should reflect this. Specifically:

  1. Intentions — Your learning objectives should be more targeted this week. Don’t copy-paste from Week 1. Adjust based on what you’ve observed.
  2. Learning Experiences — Incorporate retrieval practice — briefly revisit Week 1 and Week 2 competencies before introducing new content.
  3. Assessment — Use pair sharing, board work, or short oral tasks to quickly check who’s mastered what.
  4. Ways Forward — Your Ways Forward section this week should be your most specific yet. Identify actual learners who need remediation and describe what that looks like — not just “lesson was successful.”

This is the real power of the ILAW format over the old DLL: it pushes you to be responsive, not just compliant.

Grade 1 Subjects Covered in Term 1 Week 3

Under the MATATAG curriculum and the three-term school calendar, here are the learning areas covered in the Grade 1 ILAW lesson plan for Term 1 Week 3:

 Language (English and Filipino)

In Language 1, Grade 1 learners are developing their early speaking and listening skills. By Week 3, competencies include:

  • Talking about personal experiences and responding to teacher questions
  • Participating in simple classroom conversations
  • Expressing ideas using symbols, drawings, and early high-frequency words
  • Asking and answering simple questions orally

Your Learning Experience section should include storytelling, picture reading, and guided oral communication activities.

Reading and Literacy

Reading and Literacy in Grade 1 focuses on phonemic awareness and early print concepts. Week 3 activities may include:

  • Identifying beginning sounds and simple word patterns
  • Recognizing high-frequency sight words
  • Book handling and print concepts (left-to-right reading, title, author)
  • Listening to and retelling simple stories

Mathematics

In Mathematics 1, Term 1 Week 3 builds on number sense competencies introduced in the first two weeks. Learners may be working on:

  • Counting and recognizing numbers in context
  • Comparing groups of objects (more, less, equal)
  • Simple addition concepts using concrete objects
  • Shape recognition and sorting

Use concrete-to-representational-to-abstract (CRA) progression in your Learning Experience. Grade 1 learners need to physically manipulate objects before moving to pictures, then to numbers.

GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct)

GMRC lessons in Grade 1 center on values formation. By Week 3, topics may include:

  • Self-awareness and personal responsibility
  • Following classroom rules and routines
  • Respecting classmates and teachers
  • Simple hygiene and self-care habits

Araling Panlipunan (AP)

AP 1 introduces learners to their immediate community. Week 3 topics may involve:

  • Identifying family members and their roles
  • Understanding the school as a community
  • Recognizing community helpers
  • Simple local geography (home, school, barangay)

MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, Health)

MAPEH lessons integrate movement, creativity, and wellness. Grade 1 Week 3 may include:

  • Simple folk songs or musical activities
  • Art activities using basic shapes and colors
  • Gross motor exercises and movement games
  • Personal health habits and body awareness

Final Word for Grade 1 Teachers

Teaching Grade 1 is some of the most important work in education. You are building the foundation — the first formal reading experience, the first number sense, the first sense of school as a safe and welcoming place. The ILAW format, for all the adjustment it asks of you, is actually designed to support that kind of intentional, responsive teaching.

Week 3 is where you start seeing who your learners really are. Use your lesson plan to respond to that — not just to document it.
