What Is the ILAW Lesson Plan Format?
Before we dive into the downloads, let’s do a quick refresher — especially for teachers who are still getting comfortable with this new framework.
ILAW stands for:
Letter | Component | What It Means |
I | Intentions | The learning objectives and competencies you want learners to achieve |
L | Learning Experiences | The activities, strategies, and materials you’ll use in class |
A | Assessing Learning | How you’ll check if learners understood the lesson (formative assessment) |
W | Ways Forward | Your next steps — remediation, enrichment, or follow-up instruction |
Think of ILAW as a simplified, teacher-friendly upgrade to the traditional DLP and DLL formats. It strips away redundant paperwork and focuses on what really matters: purposeful teaching and responsive classroom decisions. As DepEd put it, a lesson plan should guide teaching — not become a compliance burden.
Why Term 1 Week 4 Is a Critical Checkpoint
Week 4 (July 6–10, 2026) may feel like just another week, but it actually marks an important moment in the Three-Term school calendar. Here’s why:
- Learners are now settling in. The initial orientation and adjustment period is over. By Week 4, your students should be moving from surface-level engagement to applying and analyzing concepts.
- Week 5 is ARAL week. Right after Week 4, the first Summative Test is administered, and Week 5 is the official start of targeted remediation (ARAL) for at-risk learners. That means your Week 4 lessons need to be focused and competency-tight — no loose ends.
- Assessment momentum matters. Under the new grading structure for SY 2026–2027, numerical grades for Grades 4–12 follow a revised transmutation table (raw score of 70.00 = 75), and class records must reflect 20% Written Works, 50% Performance Tasks, and 30% Summative Test/Exam. Your Week 4 DLL should align your formative checks with these weights.
Pro tip: Use the Ways Forward (W) section of your Week 4 DLL to document which learners show signs of difficulty. This becomes your reference when you launch ARAL interventions in Week 5.

Understanding the DepEd Three-Term School Calendar
To properly contextualize your ILAW Lesson Plan, here’s a bird’s-eye view of how Term 1 fits into the full school year:
Term | Approximate Period | Key Milestones |
Term 1 | June–August 2026 | School opening, first summative test, ARAL Week 5 |
Term 2 | September–November 2026 | Full ILAW compliance required; second summative test |
Term 3 | December 2026–March 2027 | Year-end assessments, graduation activities |
Important: Per DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026, teachers are allowed to use the old DLL/DLP format during Term 1, but are strongly encouraged to start using the ILAW format now. Full ILAW compliance becomes mandatory starting Term 2. So if you haven’t fully transitioned yet, Term 1 Week 4 is actually the perfect time to practice.

How to Use the ILAW DLL Effectively in Your Classroom
Getting the file is just the first step. Here’s how to make the most of your ILAW Lesson Plan for Week 4:
- Review Before Adopting
The downloadable DLLs are ready-made references — not final, submit-as-is documents. Read through each component carefully and ask yourself: Does this match where my learners actually are right now?
- Localize Your Learning Experiences (L)
The L component is where you can inject the most personality into your lessons. Swap out generic examples for ones that are familiar to your learners — local place names, community events, regional foods. Localization turns a good lesson into a memorable one.
- Use the Assessing Learning (A) Section Strategically
Formative assessment in Week 4 should be giving you data for Week 5’s ARAL. As you conduct your oral questioning, written exercises, or performance checks, mentally flag which students struggle with which competencies. Document this in your Ways Forward column.
- Don’t Skip the Ways Forward (W)
Many teachers write “remediation for slow learners, enrichment for fast learners” and stop there. Push yourself to be more specific: What exactly will you reteach? Which competency? What activity? A specific Ways Forward makes your Week 5 ARAL sessions far more effective.
- Collaborate With Your Grade-Level Team
The ILAW format actually encourages shared planning. If you and your co-teachers in the same grade level are using the same DLL as a starting point, you can divide the localization work, share activity ideas, and discuss assessment results together. This is what DepEd means by collaborative teacher practice.

Frequently Asked Questions About ILAW Lesson Plans
Q: Can I still use the old DLL format in Term 1?
Yes. Per DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2026, the old DLL/DLP format is still allowed during Term 1. However, full ILAW compliance is expected starting Term 2. Use Term 1 to practice and transition gradually.
Q: Are these ILAW DLLs aligned with the MATATAG curriculum?
Yes. All files on this page are developed in alignment with the DepEd Official Three-Term Budget of Work (BOW) for SY 2026–2027 and the MATATAG learning competencies.
Q: Do I need to fill out every section of the DLL?
The ILAW format is intentionally streamlined. You are not required to write lengthy explanations. A concise, clearly written DLL that shows alignment between Intentions, Learning Experiences, Assessment, and Ways Forward is already complete and compliant.
Q: What if my school’s division office has additional DLL requirements?
Always defer to your school head and division office for any local formatting requirements. The ILAW files here serve as a base template — adjust as needed to meet your division’s expectations.
Q: Will these files be updated weekly?
Yes! Check back every week for updated ILAW DLL files. We upload new files regularly to keep pace with the Three-Term Budget of Work.
